On June 12, 2024 our coalition publicly launched with a press conference outside of Fulton County Courthouse. We expressed our collective opposition to a new jail in Fulton County, reviewed a new Prison Policy Initiative study that identified significant flaws in Fulton’s feasibility study for a New Jail, and offered solutions to the root causes of the ongoing carceral crises in Fulton County Jails. We remain committed to offering our expertise to address the issues that exist today while working to also ensure we do not find ourselves in a similar position in the future. We must address both the structural deficiencies in Fulton’s legal system while also reducing Fulton’s over-reliance on the legal system to address public safety concerns.
